Transavia Flight Cancellations Strand French Travelers in Morocco for Days

While they were supposed to return to France on Friday, May 30, after participating in a sports raid in Marrakech, two French people experienced a real nightmare. Their return flights booked with Transavia were cancelled over two days.
Jules and Alexis, two colleagues from Lyon, experienced the bitter experience of having their flights cancelled. "Our flight was cancelled the day before (May 29), without any real explanation. Just an email vaguely mentioning an ’operational problem’," Alexis testifies. Transavia gives them the opportunity to travel on Friday, May 31. To the surprise of the two friends, this replacement flight was cancelled. "What’s most frustrating is that they give us a solution, then take it away without any other information," Alexis fumes. "And in the meantime, everything fills up. We find ourselves completely stuck."
The two Lyon residents find themselves in difficulty, with all direct flights to France from Marrakech fully booked for the Ascension weekend. "We had to go to Casablanca by taxi to try our luck with another company. Three hours of travel for a cost of 200 euros...," Jules recounts.
At the origin of the Transavia flight cancellations was a strike movement. "A social movement initiated by a minority union of flight attendants is disrupting operations," the company’s communications department tells Le Progrès. This is the SNPNC-FO union that called on Transavia France’s cabin crew to observe this social movement.
Transavia also promises to refund all cancelled flights. "All flights not operated will be refunded. If passengers have found an alternative solution to reach their destination, Transavia will reimburse the price difference of the new plane ticket, hotel nights and meals, up to €80 per person per night for accommodation, and €20 per meal, as well as covering transportation between the hotel and the airport," the company specifies, inviting customers to keep their purchase receipts.
And to add: "Furthermore, passengers affected by a cancellation are also eligible for compensation."
