Stellantis Shifts Peugeot 208 Production: Morocco for Gas Models, Spain for Electric

Stellantis would have decided to entrust the entire production of the Peugeot 208 (Internal Combustion) to the Kenitra plant, in Morocco. Until now, it was shared with the Trnava plant in Slovakia.
The automaker has decided to partially relocate the production of the Peugeot e-208 to the Spanish Figueruelas plant. From now on, the thermal versions of the car will be produced in Kenitra while the electric models will come out of the Spanish plant, according to the Spanish specialized press. This relocation is accompanied by an update of the car’s design and powertrain mechanics.
This change comes as rumors circulate about French pressure for the relocation of e-208 production to French territory. However, Carlos Tavares, CEO of Stellantis, would have conditioned this decision on obtaining aid from the French government. Production in Spain would only be a small victory for the local industry, as the next generation of the e-208 is scheduled for 2026, and France could still negotiate to obtain it.
Spain and France are competing for the allocation of Stellantis’ new STLA Small electric platform. Spain seems to have the advantage, as its labor costs are more competitive and only the French plants have so far received the more expensive STLA Medium platform.
