OM Star Aguerd Breaks Silence on Airport Assault Ordeal

"I want to reassure everyone following the information that has been circulating for a few hours. I was indeed assaulted at the Marignane airport while waiting for my flight to join the Moroccan national team. Fortunately, it was more of a scare than anything else, and it was quickly over thanks to the intervention of the security personnel and the police. It is now in the hands of the police," wrote Nayef Aguerd in a post on Instagram.

He added: "I’m fine, I’m now focused on what matters most to me: playing for OM and proudly representing my country at the next gathering. Thank you for all your messages of support and concern. They truly touch me. Let’s always remain calm and respectful. Life goes on."

On Monday, the Moroccan defender was the victim of an assault as he was about to take off for Morocco to join the national team. He was in the VIP lounge waiting for his flight when an individual approached him. He asked him for his number and a selfie, before raising his voice. Shortly after, he tried to slap the Atlas Lion before fleeing. The lounge security intervened to immobilize him. After his arrest, the aggressor was questioned.
