Standard Liège Legend Eric Gerets Praises Moroccan Star Mehdi Carcela

Moroccan international Mehdi Carcela is one of the players that former Atlas Lions coach Eric Gerets closely follows at Standard Liège. The former captain of the Reds and Whites gave his opinion on the Carcela enigma at this club.
Eric Gerets is an icon of Standard Liège. For having made the glory days of this club, the former captain of Standard Liège does not fail to appreciate the journey of his first club, as an international player.
During an interview with a Belgian sports magazine, Eric Gerets commented on the performances of Arnaud Bodart, Zinho Vanheusden and Moroccan international Mehdi Carcela.
"I can only tell you that I adore him. I adore him, but no one will be able to change him. Neither Preud’homme nor Gerets nor the best coach in the world," said Eric Gerets. According to him, the Atlas Lion lives his life alone. "He can be fantastic as he can be non-existent. I’m not going to say he’s a baby, but if I had to give him an age, I’d say 16! But I repeat that I adore him, I can’t help it, I can’t do anything about it," continues the former OM coach.
Gerets also compared the Moroccan player to one of his OM players, Ben Arfa: "Technically, he was above everyone else. He was super fast. He knew how to score goals. But for him, it didn’t work anywhere, ultimately," added the Belgian Golden Shoe 1982.
