Spanish Teacher Banned for 6 Years After Racist Attack on Moroccan Man

A teacher from Alcalá de Henares in Spain has been banned from teaching for six years for making racist insults against a Moroccan.

The teacher insulted and assaulted a person of Moroccan origin in a bar "solely because of his prejudices and contempt for people of Moroccan origin," said judicial sources. The prosecutor requested a sentence of 21 months in prison against him, a sentence that was reduced, after an agreement between the parties, to seven months in prison, reports Europa Press. The prosecutor also asks the judge of the provincial court of Madrid to ban the defendant from practicing his profession as a teacher for a period of six years and to impose a fine of 1,100 euros to be paid to the Moroccan as compensation for the assault and injuries.

The facts. In the afternoon of June 19, 2020, the accused went to the terrace of the Tendry bar, located on Segovia Street in Alcalá de Henares. After sitting at a table, the accused began to shout: "I hate foreigners, I kill them, they are the ones responsible for what is happening." Having noticed the presence of the victim who was accompanied by a friend at another table, he began to throw provocative looks at them before approaching the Moroccan, to hurl insults at him. "I’m going to kill you, you fucking Moor, go back to your country. If you look at me again, I’ll kill you," he told him.

The accused then struck the victim several times, who did not fail to react. The two ended up on the ground and after a few minutes of scuffle, were separated by the witnesses to the scene. Then the accused took photos of the victim with his mobile phone, while continuing to threaten him: "Remember, I’ll kill you, I’ll shoot you."
