Moroccan Man Sentenced to 8 Years for New Year’s Day Rape in Spain

The court in Girona, in northern Spain, sentenced a Moroccan man to 8 years in prison for repeatedly raping and kidnapping a young woman in an apartment in 2015.
The events took place on New Year’s Day 2015. Brahim Danna, a 33-year-old Moroccan man, approached the victim who had forgotten her handbag in a nightclub in Blanes, assuring her that he had the lost item. He then asked the girl to accompany him to his apartment across from the nightclub to retrieve her bag. Once in the apartment, Brahim took her to the bedroom and raped her twice before falling asleep, reports El Caso.

The victim tried to take advantage of this moment to escape, but the apartment door was locked. Upon waking up, the young woman offered to go out together for breakfast, which he accepted. It was on this occasion that they met a relative of the young woman who was looking for her. The victim, in tears, confided to him that she had been assaulted by the young man, who was arrested a few hours later by the Mossos d’Esquadra.
Before the judges, the accused denied having raped the victim and later claimed that she consented to the sexual relations. The court ultimately convicted him of a crime of sexual assault and sentenced him to 8 years in prison. It also ordered his expulsion to Morocco, with a ban on entering Spain for a period of 8 years. He will also have to pay the victim 20,000 euros in damages.
