Moroccan Man Faces 16-Year Sentence for Brutal Attack on Ex-Wife in Canary Islands

The justice system has requested a 16-year prison sentence against a Moroccan who violently assaulted his ex-partner in 2019 in Santa Lucía de Tirajana (Canary Islands) while he was already under a restraining order.
The facts date back to June 14, 2019 when the accused, Moustapha B., by violating the judge’s restraining order, presented himself at the home of his ex-wife and violently assaulted her "with punches and kicks all over her body, before stabbing her several times with a knife". The victim would have lost her life if she had not received emergency medical assistance, recalls the public prosecutor. She came out of this attack with several fractures and had to undergo surgical procedures that left her with scars on her face, neck and knee, adds the prosecution, which mentions an aesthetic prejudice.

In an attempt to discredit the victim and damage her honor, the accused hurled insults at her during the attack such as: "If I see you with another man, I’ll rip your head off," the public prosecutor said, recalling that Moustapha B. had already been found guilty of a crime of domestic violence against the victim and has a well-stocked criminal record. He has been in pre-trial detention since July 16, 2019.
Given the seriousness of the facts, the prosecutor has asked the judge to sentence the Moroccan to 16 years in prison for attempted murder, threats and insults, and to pay the victim a fine of 21,500 euros in damages.
