Moroccan Man Loses Custody After Fatal Stabbing of Ex-Wife in Spain

The Barbastro investigating court withdrew the parental rights of the Moroccan who stabbed his ex-wife Hassna A, 35, also of Moroccan origin, to death in front of their three children. The couple had divorced two months before the murder, which occurred on Wednesday.
In its order, the judge withdrew the accused’s parental rights over his three children aged 14, 6 and 1, and prohibited him from approaching them within at least 1,000 meters. The Moroccan is also prohibited from contacting them by any means and from residing in Barbastro or a neighboring locality within 10 kilometers. Since the minors have no relatives in Barbastro, they will be placed under the guardianship of the social services (IASS) of the government of Aragon, the judge added in his decision.

Sources from the High Court of Justice of Aragon (TSJA) told Heraldo that the accused, admitted to the psychiatric unit of the San Jorge University Hospital in Huesca after the murder, is still not in a position to testify. The judge visited the hospital on Friday to check on the defendant’s health. After which, he ordered his detention. The 43-year-old Moroccan suffered from mental disorders and his ex-wife had filed a complaint against him for sexual assault, which had led the judge to issue a restraining order against him at the end of 2020.
