Spanish Security Chief: Morocco Poses No Current Threat to Ceuta and Melilla

Morocco does not currently represent a threat to Spain, despite its insistent claims on Ceuta and Melilla, said General Loreto Gutiérrez Hurtado, director of the National Security Department (DSN), on Monday.
Speaking at a breakfast organized by the Club Diálogos para la Democracia (Club Dialogues for Democracy), Loreto Gutiérrez Hurtado hammered that Morocco does not constitute a threat to Spain. "We have working groups related to Ceuta and Melilla, as with all other autonomous communities, because it is our duty to defend our State, and for the moment there is nothing specific to report in this regard," she said.
In her statements reported by Europa Press, the director of the National Security Directorate (DSN) added that "relevant" and "exhaustive" studies are carried out in relation to all autonomous communities and cities, based on information provided by the competent ministries and the National Intelligence Center (CNI).
General Loreto insisted on the need for the Spanish government to equip itself with adequate means to effectively counter disinformation campaigns and cyber attacks, while also stressing the importance for the media to have access to "reliable sources". "The media play a crucial role, they are the ones who must convey this information and be reliable sources of information," she argued.
