Spanish Police Seize 26 Tons of Cannabis Bound for France in Major Drug Bust

After several months of investigation conducted jointly with Morocco and France, the Spanish police intercepted, on the night of Saturday, September 4 to Sunday, September 5, a record shipment of 26 tons of cannabis near Granada. Seven people were arrested and taken into custody.
The drug was tracked by French police from the Anti-Drug Office (Ofast), as part of a "controlled delivery" operation, a police technique that consists of allowing drugs to pass through the border, according to sources close to the investigation.
The seized cannabis was intended to supply several drug trafficking networks in France, the same sources relayed by AFP, adding that the arrests were made in France and Spain.
"There was very close police cooperation with Morocco and Spain," said the Paris prosecutor’s office, stressing that the interception was carried out "by mutual agreement" between the French and Spanish. The investigation was entrusted to the National Jurisdiction for the Fight against Organized Crime.
According to the same sources, the truck, after having unloaded part of its cargo during a "stop" in a Spanish town, then "pretended not to be heading towards France" anymore, forcing the Spaniards to intervene.
