Spanish Police Officers Arrested in Major Morocco-Spain Drug Trafficking Bust

The National Police and the Civil Guard have dismantled a major drug trafficking network between the ports of Tangier and Algeciras in which police officers are involved. In total, at least eight agents from different corps have been arrested.

These corrupt agents ensured the security of the drugs during the crossing of the border between Tangier and Algeciras. The networks, made up on both sides, were dismantled after a year and a half of joint investigation by the National Police and the Civil Guard. At least five agents from the Armed Institute serving in the port area of Algeciras, a police officer stationed in Ceuta, a customs agent and a former local police officer have been arrested, according to El Confidencial, specifying that 61 people have been apprehended and more than 83.68 kilos of hashish resin and 9.76 tons of cocaine have been seized.

The searches carried out in Malaga, Cadiz, Granada, Ceuta, Palma de Mallorca, Barcelona and other cities, allowed the seizure of thousands of valuable jewelry, eight firearms, 35 vehicles including trucks used to transport the drugs hidden in packaging in the form of tomatoes and melons.

The ringleader of this network, presumed to be corrupt, was a high-ranking Civil Guard who lived in the municipality of Malaga de Rincón de la Victoria. The other agents simply obeyed his instructions, letting the trucks carrying the drugs through. These agents were supposed to "facilitate access" to the goods in exchange for large sums of money. They will be prosecuted for offenses of belonging to a criminal organization and against public health.
