Spanish Police Boost Security in Melilla for Moroccan Transit Operation

As part of Operation Marhaba 2022, the Spanish police have reinforced their staff in Melilla, particularly at the Beni-Ensar border, to ensure the safety of both Moroccans in Europe transiting through the city and citizens.
A first reinforcement of staff took place a few days before the reopening of the border with Morocco on May 17, and was materialized by the deployment of eight agents from the Immigration Intervention Brigade (BRIC) and a group from the Police Intervention Unit (UIP), according to a press release from the Melilla police prefecture.

The Directorate General of Police also announced that 16 new police officers, freshly out of the Avila Police Academy, as well as three sub-inspectors, four police officers and 22 veteran police officers will be deployed in the autonomous city as part of Operation Marhaba 2022.

Also, 45 police trainees, 4 inspector trainees and 3 first-class inspectors will do their internship in Melilla, pending their integration in July. Of the 45 police trainees, 15 will reinforce security at the border during the high-traffic months, namely July, August and September.
