Spanish Opposition Blames PM Sanchez for Diplomatic Crisis with Morocco

The Popular Party (PP) accused on Wednesday the President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sanchez, of being "the sole responsible" for the crisis opened with Morocco after the entry into Spain of Brahim Ghali, the leader of the Polisario Front.
According to Valentina Martinez Ferro, the PP deputy, the President of the Government, Pedro Sanchez, is the "sole responsible" for this crisis "which has broken all the balances of Spanish foreign policy". To better understand what happened, she has requested the appearance of the new Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, at an extraordinary session of the Foreign Affairs Committee to answer the question of whether Laya acted autonomously or simply followed instructions.

Relations with Morocco "have deteriorated deeply long before Ghali’s entry into Spain", but the reception of the Polisario Front leader in a hospital in Logroño is "one of the most serious mistakes that have considerably marked the foreign policy of the government," said Martinez Ferro on Wednesday, during a meeting of the Congress.

The Ghali affair has caused "a real earthquake in relations with Morocco, a partner country with which Spain maintains a dynamic cooperation in commercial matters and in the fight against migratory flows, terrorism and drug trafficking," explained the PP deputy, who stresses that the crisis with Morocco "is far from being resolved, despite the departure of Gonzales Laya from the government".
