Spanish Opposition Urges Swift Restoration of Morocco-Spain Relations

Concerned by the tensions between Morocco and Spain, the Spanish Popular Party (PP) wishes that Madrid resume "as soon as possible" its relations with Rabat.
Thus, the Spanish Popular Party is preparing to submit in the coming days, in a plenary session of Congress, an initiative for a vote and debate in this direction, the local press reports, adding that the party also wishes that the police and Civil Guard presence be strengthened at the southern border. According to the Spanish press, this motion "lays bare the increasingly vague role" of Spain in the EU, the transatlantic and Mediterranean space.

This conflict between Spain and Morocco "was not an unforeseen or unpredictable event," when we know that Morocco had already announced the colors by deciding on the "unilateral" closure of the borders in March 2020, followed by the "unilateral declaration of extension of its maritime border" during the same month, explained the PP, stressing that even well before that, in December last year, the postponement of the high-level meeting between Rabat and Madrid was already a sign of complicated relations. And finally, the arrival of Brahim Ghali in Spain without Rabat being informed, has further degraded everything, in addition to the massive influx of migrants to Ceuta.
In view of these multiple misunderstandings, the PP expects the Congress to call on the Spanish government to "restore cooperation and good neighborly relations with Morocco as soon as possible" and "strengthen the presence and resources of the security forces at the southern border with the neighboring country".
