Spanish Navy Conducts Surveillance Missions in Alboran Sea Near Morocco

The Spanish Navy’s maritime action ship "Meteoro" has been carrying out a surveillance and deterrence mission in the Alboran Sea and the cities of Ceuta and Melilla since late April.
The ship left the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria base to carry out maritime surveillance and security missions in the Alboran Sea. In this context, the crew of "Meteoro" and the operational team carried out live-fire exercises at sea, reports El Debate. The objective of these missions is to guarantee the security of maritime areas of national interest, according to the Canary Islands Naval Command.
The "Meteoro" is designed to carry out military missions against asymmetric and conventional threats, and mainly, maritime security operations. Built by Navantia, it is 94 meters long and can carry various aircraft. On May 3, the ship docked at the port of Motril for an open house day for the local population. Its presence was also reported at the port of Ceuta.
