Spanish Man Faces Extended Detention in Morocco Over Unpaid Customs Fine

César, a Spaniard detained in the Tetouan prison for two years, risks staying there for a long time if he fails to pay the fine. His family and his Moroccan girlfriend, Soukaina, are asking for help.

César’s relatives are ready to do anything to obtain his freedom, but they are limited by means. They cannot face such a heavy financial penalty and do not know which door to knock on to get help. Desperate, they are asking the Moroccan authorities to lower the amount of the fine to be paid, El Faro de Ceuta reports.

The 30-year-old man, orphaned of his father and mother since the age of 5, also does not have the means to pay this customs fine. He has already served a two-year sentence and risks being deprived of liberty for longer if he fails to pay this heavy fine. His family confides that he was arrested while going to Morocco to meet his Moroccan girlfriend, Soukaina, in order to finalize the procedures for their marriage.
