Spanish LGBTI Activists Open New Climbing Route in Morocco’s High Atlas

The climbing and LGBTI activist couple, Jaume Peiró and Álex González, from Pobla de Vallbona (Valencia), have launched a new route called "Queer Action" in the High Atlas of Morocco.
These climbers who defend equality and the rights of the LGBTI community around the world were in Morocco, more precisely in the High Atlas, next to Taghia, a small Berber village considered a climbers’ paradise. "It was great," the couple acknowledged.
As during previous expeditions, the couple spent a day exploring the region and studying the available routes before deciding on a new route in the Oujda, the "most emblematic and aesthetic summit of the valley," according to Peiró. The route became a reality on April 23 and they named it "Queer Action". According to Jaume Peiró, it is a 400-meter route to be covered on a very steep slope until reaching the summit of the mountain.

It is a "semi-equipped and committed route," explains Peiró, adding that "Queer" is an Anglo-Saxon word that designates the set of terms that make up the LGBTIQ+ collective. "
