Spanish Immigration Firm Director Arrested for Defrauding Moroccan Woman in Residence Permit Scam

The Spanish police arrested at the beginning of the week a man of Spanish origin, director of a firm specializing in the processing of foreigners’ documentation in the city of Melilla, for having defrauded a Moroccan woman to whom he had promised to issue a residence permit in Spain.
The facts date back to November 2019. The Moroccan woman paid the businessman the sum of 5,000 euros so that he would help her carry out the necessary procedures to obtain a residence permit. But the defendant did not provide the service for which he was paid and refused, despite several reminders, to return the money. This attitude prompted the Moroccan woman to finally file a complaint with the Melilla police prefecture on September 5, 2024, relays El Faro de Melilla.
The Moroccan woman gave power of attorney to a friend to report the facts on her behalf, since she did not have her papers in order to go to Melilla. The file was transmitted to the Unit for the Fight against Illegal Immigration Networks and Forged Documents (UCRIF) which opened an investigation, leading to the arrest of the Spanish businessman for the offense of fraud.
The defendant is known to the police for having already been arrested twice for the same reason. The investigators have transmitted their report to the competent judicial authority which will decide the fate of the Spanish citizen.
