Spanish General Warns of Moroccan Threat to Ceuta and Melilla, Urges Defense Preparedness

In his book titled "Soldados", retired General Juan Carlos Domingo Guerra claims that Spain should prepare to face threats from the south, particularly from Morocco, which claims the autonomous cities of Ceuta and Melilla.

In this radiography of the military world and defense in Spain, the former military man evokes the persistence of Morocco’s claims on Ceuta and Melilla. "It’s just a matter of time before it tries to recover Ceuta and Melilla, as it has already done with the Sahara," he warns, denouncing the fact that the two cities "are not well defended" by the Spanish security and defense forces, who rely on the solidarity of NATO allies in case of attack. However, "the one who leads NATO, the United States, sees Morocco as a privileged ally," he points out.

Juan Carlos Domingo Guerra also analyzes in his book the problems affecting the Spanish armed forces and defense policies. "We need a major defense plan that includes a reorganization of the armies" and "an economic scenario that fits into multi-year plans," said the general, who notes a "disaffection," "hostility" or "indifference" towards the armed forces on the part of the society they serve. For this reason, he points out that "it is not easy to be a soldier in a nation like Spain," blaming the politicians.
