Spanish Far-Right Party Vox Faces Backlash for Racist Tweet Targeting Rapper Morad

The Vox party of Sabadell (northeast Spain) published on its Twitter account a racist message against the Spanish rapper of Moroccan origin Morad, calling for the expulsion of the artist if it is proven that he has financed a group of Moroccans to commit a criminal act. The blatantly racist tweet provoked strong reactions.

"Rapper Morad was arrested by the Mossos for allegedly financing a group of Moroccans up to 1,000 euros to burn containers. With Vox, he will be deported if the crime is proven," Vox Sabadell tweeted on Sunday. The reaction of Internet users did not wait to denounce this racist post.

Constitutional law professor and former Constitutional Court lawyer Joaquín Urías reminded the far-right party that "Morad is Spanish. He cannot be deported... Unless Vox means that people of another race should be deported." Morad was released on bail after being arrested on Wednesday for public disorder due to his alleged involvement in the burning of containers in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat (Barcelona).

The city court ordered the rapper’s expulsion from his La Florida neighborhood where he is now persona non grata, considering that this measure is "necessary to ensure the safety of people and property." For Morad’s defense, this measure is rather "disproportionate."
