Spanish Enclaves Propose Bill to Deport Unaccompanied Migrant Minors

A bill that will soon be submitted by the president of the government of the city of Ceuta, provides for including in the Child Protection Act a provision to expel all unaccompanied foreign minors from the two autonomous cities of Ceuta and Melilla.
It is thus stated the automatic expulsion to Morocco of any minor who has arrived on the spot for "economic considerations", whether he is a Moroccan citizen or even a foreigner. In the event that the child is not expelled to the kingdom, that the State takes charge of him and transfers him to the peninsula within a maximum period of three months.
Even if until now it is the local authorities of Ceuta and Melilla who take charge of the costs inherent to the child, the local government of Ceuta would like that as long as the child has not been repatriated to his country of origin, it will be the State that will fully finance the costs, in particular his food, his accommodation, the sanitary facilities and the medical care.
"At the end of the three-month period and if the child has still not been repatriated to his country of origin, it will be necessary to transfer him to juvenile centers located on national territory," is stated in this project, according to the Europa Press agency.
For the political leader, Ceuta and Melilla are experiencing a "critical" situation caused by "the flow of unaccompanied minors" who arrive on the spot in search of a better future than in their country of origin for themselves or their families.
