Spanish Campsites See Surge in French Tourists as Morocco Loses Appeal

The campsites in the Murcia region hope for an influx of tourists during the Easter holidays, both on the coast of Cartagena, Mazarrón and Águilas and inland in the region, benefiting from the disaffection of tourists for Morocco this winter season.
The campsites in Murcia are crowded in winter due to the mild temperature of the region, particularly appreciated by retirees from Central Europe and the French who have abandoned Morocco, says ORM.
According to Alfonso Morenilla, president of the Camping Association of the Murcia Region, the campsites in Cartagena and Benidorm recorded the most tourists during the month of February, with an average of 28 nights. The naturist campsite El Portús, for its part, has broken a historical record, according to its director, Aurelio Vaquero.

The campsites in Cartagena, Mazarrón and Águilas generally welcome foreigners and retirees in winter, Morenilla points out, adding that families and young people arrive rather in spring.
In 2021, these campsites achieved very good sales figures, says Morenilla, who hopes that the bookings for Easter will make it possible to recover the losses recorded in March after the cancellations due to the health crisis.
