Spanish Border Guard Sentenced for Stealing €450 from Moroccan Traveler

A Civil Guard was sentenced to seven months in prison for stealing money from a Moroccan during a check at the Beni-Enzar border.
The facts date back to May 27, 2022. While he was searching the vehicle of the Moroccan who was going to Melilla, the Civil Guard at the Beni-Enzar border recovered a fanny pack that was under the driver’s seat. Then, the 39-year-old agent opened the bag and removed 450 euros before putting it back in place. Meanwhile, the 38-year-old Moroccan was undergoing a body search by other Civil Guards.
After these formalities, the Moroccan went to the maritime station in the port of Melilla to pay for his boat ticket. It was at this moment that he realized that his money had disappeared. He then returned to the border post to ask the agents if they had not found any money during their check. But they replied in the negative, asking him to leave his phone number for any useful purposes.
A few moments later, the Moroccan was contacted by the agents. On his arrival, the Civil Guard approached him "and gave him 350 euros, declaring that it was the only thing he had found". Noting a gap of 100 euros, he decided to file a complaint for theft. The Civil Guard was thus sentenced by the court to seven months in prison, to pay an indemnity of 100 euros and to pay the costs of the proceedings.
