Spanish Authorities Seize 1.6 Tons of Hashish Off Tenerife Coast, Arrest 3 Suspects

The Civil Guard has seized, on a boat sailing near the coast of Tenerife, 1,640 kilos of Moroccan hashish, as well as the arrest of three men of Moroccan origin.
The drug was seized on December 31 during a joint operation carried out with the customs surveillance service of the Tax Administration. In total, 46 bales containing 1,640 kilograms of Moroccan hashish were seized on a suspicious boat sailing near the coast of the island of Tenerife, reports El Confidencial.

After the helicopter of the Civil Guard located the boat, it was intercepted by the units of the provincial maritime service and the GEAS. The three crew members, panicked, began to throw several of the hashish bales into the sea. Aged 36, 32 and 16, and of Moroccan origin, they were arrested as alleged perpetrators of a drug trafficking crime.
The three detainees were made available to the court in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, which ordered their detention. The hashish bales thrown into the sea were also recovered.
