Spanish Authorities Seize Massive Cocaine Shipment on Sailboat off Morocco Coast

The Spanish Civil Guard and customs services carried out a major cocaine seizure at sea on a sailboat off the Moroccan coast.
A big blow for the Spanish security and customs agents. A major cocaine seizure was made on January 18 on a Blume sailboat renamed Togo coming from Brazil. Officially, the vessel was only transporting 200 tons of coffee on a commercial voyage to Latvia. While Blume was crossing the Atlantic, heading towards the Moroccan coast - moving away from its declared destination -, it attracted the attention of the Spanish customs authorities, reports The Maritime Executive.
The Spanish Civil Guard, the customs surveillance service and the national police quickly mobilized to launch an operation. This proved to be fruitful. They discovered dozens of bales of cocaine stacked in the ship’s holds. The vessel was directed to Santa Cruz de Tenerife. During a search, the law enforcement agents transported 4,500 tons of cocaine. In total, 15 people were arrested. Among them, 13 Pakistani nationals and two Albanians.
