Spanish Authorities Bust Car Fraud Ring: 17 Arrested in Million-Euro Moroccan Vehicle Scheme

The Civil Guard has dismantled a criminal network specialized in the sale of vehicles imported from Morocco that it passes off as vehicles from European Union countries. In total, 17 people have been arrested.
The dismantling operation follows an investigation opened after irregularities were observed in the documents of certain vehicles imported from the EU or Morocco and registered in Spain, during technical inspections. An analysis of the documents of these vehicles allowed the investigators to discover that they were false.
A total of 56 vehicles with false papers have already been detected in Madrid, Toledo, Tarragona and Girona. The network has carried out all the vehicle registration formalities in Spain with false documents, before offering them for sale on various online sites. Several public establishments dedicated to the purchase and sale of vehicles in the province of Madrid would be involved in this traffic.
In total, 17 people have been arrested. They are accused of crimes of falsification of public, official and commercial documents, falsification of private documents, manipulations in vehicle registration and membership of a criminal group. This illegal traffic has generated a profit of 1,351,448 euros for the criminal network.
