Spain's Vox Party Accuses Morocco of "Extortion" Over Territorial Disputes

The Vox party believes that Spain cannot maintain good relations with Morocco as long as the kingdom continues to "extort" it and "let it happen".

The Vox deputy from Ceuta, Teresa Lopez, reproaches the Spanish government for not specifying in its response to the written question addressed to it in December whether or not it was aware of the installation of a Moroccan fish farm on the Chafarinas Islands. As with any response, the Executive simply stated that these actions "are not contrary to Spain’s desire to maintain good neighborly and cooperative relations with Morocco".

"A good relationship cannot be maintained with Morocco as long as it continues to extort money from Spain. But the worst thing is that the government, not only lets itself be extorted by Morocco, but with this type of response, encourages the kingdom to continue to do so," reacted the Vox deputy, denouncing "the indecency of the government".

The far-right formation had also asked the Sanchez government whether Morocco had asked it for authorization to install this fish farm and whether it had received the Defense recommendation on the claim of the territorial waters of the Chafarinas Islands. In response, the Executive said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had denounced this violation of Spanish territorial waters and made it known to Morocco through the usual diplomatic channels.

The Vox deputy from Ceuta assures that her formation will continue to denounce this government that "is not even capable of stopping, and firmly, a country that does not understand another language", because, she concludes, "the Executive does not defend Spain".
