Spain Urged to Mend Ties with Morocco to Avert Economic and Diplomatic Fallout

Former Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Garcia Margallo said that "relations with Morocco must be repaired quickly to avoid damage".
Invited to the fourth Business Forum in Melilla, Garcia Margallo stated that "Moroccan-Spanish relations are very weak at the moment", considering that "Sanchez made mistakes such as not making his first visit to Rabat", reports El Faro.
The former minister also felt that "relations with Morocco must be repaired as soon as possible, otherwise it will cause us very significant damage", adding that he "believes that the borders will remain closed as long as there are no good relations with the neighboring country".
Furthermore, according to the former official, "Morocco’s claims to liberate the cities of Ceuta, Melilla and the Canary Islands did not occur when we had good relations", adding that "the important thing now is to restore relations with Morocco".
