To anticipate a possible conflict at its southern border, the Spanish army is adapting its geographic and ballistic deployment. The narrowness of the strait separating the two continents makes the area vulnerable to reciprocal artillery strikes. Facing the risk of amphibious assault, the peninsula relies on cutting-edge equipment, such as K9 Thunder howitzers with a range of forty kilometers. Airspace protection is ensured by a multi-layered shield composed of Patriot, Hawk and Mistral interceptors, complemented by the air-to-air arsenal of fighter jets.

The Iberian deterrent force also relies on significant human resources. In 2024, the armed forces rely on 112,395 soldiers, reinforced by 25,374 reservists ready to intervene in case of national emergency. If these troops proved insufficient against a large-scale attack requiring extensive surveillance operations, the Constitution authorizes massive mobilization. Article 30 stipulates that citizens have "the right and duty to defend Spain", allowing the government to requisition the population in case of imminent danger.

According to the newspaper La Razón, the objective of this global defense network is clear: to demonstrate that the peninsula possesses "sufficient potential to face any type of threat".
