Spain’s Lamine Yamal Makes History at Euro 2024, Honors Moroccan Roots

The Spanish national team started Euro 2024 with a convincing 3-0 victory over Croatia. A match marked by the performance of the young winger of FC Barcelona, Lamine Yamal, but also by a symbolic gesture on the part of the player of Moroccan origin.
Indeed, Yamal wore special shoes for the occasion, bearing the flags of Morocco and Equatorial Guinea. A tribute to his origins, the player being born in Spain to Moroccan and Equatorial Guinean parents.
On the field against Croatia, Lamine Yamal confirmed his immense potential. At only 16 years old, he became the youngest player to play a European Championship match.
In a recent interview with GQ, Yamal had discussed his choice of sports nationality. "I never had any doubt. I always knew I wanted to play a European Championship and a World Cup with the Spanish team," said the young striker, who had declined Morocco’s proposal to join the Atlas Lions.
