Spain Grants Majority of Schengen Visas to Moroccan Applicants, Data Shows

Moroccans are the main beneficiaries of Schengen visas issued by Spain among Maghreb nationals. This is revealed by the figures from the Spanish government.
Over the past three years, Moroccans have obtained more Schengen visas from Spain than Algerians and Tunisians. Out of 260,478 Moroccan applications, 212,725 visas were granted, while 47,753 were refused, a refusal rate of only 18%.
On the other hand, Algeria has benefited from 87,120 Schengen visas out of 128,776 applications. 41,656 were rejected, a refusal rate of 32%. As for Tunisians, they have benefited over the past three years from 8,780 visas out of a total of 12,527 applications.
This evolution in the processing of visa applications would be linked to the evolution of relations between the Maghreb countries and Spain, according to some observers. Madrid’s recent recognition of the Moroccanness of the Sahara has provoked the anger of the current Algerian regime. Algeria has thus announced the rupture of diplomatic and commercial ties with Spain.
