Spain Flexes Military Muscle: Strategic Islands Fortified Amid Rising Tensions

A major Spanish military operation is underway near the Moroccan coast. Reinforcements from the Legion have been deployed to the Chafarinas Islands and the Perejil Islet. This maneuver is a message.

Spain has activated its Land Operations Command (COT) as part of a large-scale operation called "Sinergia 25". This extensive deployment, which mobilizes land, naval and air units, aims to strengthen the surveillance and security of several territories considered strategic by the Defense.

This maneuver is particularly focused on the enclaves and islets located near the Moroccan coast. Reinforcements from the Spanish Legion have thus been deployed by sea to the Chafarinas Islands and the Perejil Islet (Laila). Patrols have also been intensified in the cities of Ceuta and Melilla, as well as in the Canary and Balearic Islands, reports El Confidencial Digital.

This ground deployment is supported by naval and air assets. The patrol ship "Furor" has been positioned near the Chafarinas, while the Air Force is conducting an air defense exercise called "Eagle Eye". In the Canary Islands, NASAMS missile batteries and MISTRAL systems have also been mobilized to protect critical infrastructure.

This show of force comes in a context where Morocco has revived its territorial claims on enclaves under Spanish sovereignty. The operation is thus perceived as a deterrent message addressed to Rabat.

Major General Ramón Armada Vázquez, Chief of Staff of the Land Command, stressed that this mobilization allows for "rapid and flexible" action in the face of any eventuality. The overall objective, coordinated by the Operations Command, is to guarantee the security of the territory through comprehensive surveillance, including in the cyber and space domains.
