Spain fears a "Moroccan invasion" before the end of the year

Security at the land borders between Morocco and the Spanish enclaves of Ceuta and Melilla has been strengthened to prevent attempts at infiltration and irregular immigration, which usually multiply during the end-of-year holidays.
Several security measures have been taken by the Spanish and Moroccan authorities during this end-of-year holiday period. Among them, the deployment of additional security agents along the borders, the strengthening of control and surveillance points thanks to the use of advanced technologies, such as thermal cameras and night sensors.
Spain must meet a major challenge: the traffic jams that occur at the Beni Ansar and Ceuta border crossing points during the holidays and festivities. The Spanish police have meanwhile sent additional agents to manage the situation. But the opening of two additional passages at the border to accelerate the flow remains an ineffective solution due to the large number of vehicles waiting.
On the Moroccan side, the police continue their efforts to monitor the coastal areas near the border fences, particularly those known as starting points for attempts to swim to the occupied cities, we are told. Patrols have been strengthened in the areas surrounding the border fences. Another measure: continued coordination with the Spanish side for the exchange of intelligence information.
These measures are part of a comprehensive strategy to reduce the activities of human trafficking networks that exploit the festive atmosphere to intensify their attempts to smuggle migrants into Europe.
