Spain Deploys Navy Vessel to Boost Maritime Surveillance Off Melilla Coast

The Spanish government plans to send a military ship to the coasts of Melilla, a border town with Morocco, as part of maritime surveillance.
According to the Spanish daily ABC, the Spanish authorities intend to send a coastal patrol vessel for the first time to Melilla next summer.
The main mission of the ship will be to continuously monitor the territorial waters of the Alboran Sea, as well as those of the autonomous city of Melilla, where many migrants enter European territory via Morocco.
The ship will be integrated into the Maritime Action Force of the Spanish Navy. Ships of this type are part of the Spanish customs and coast guard services. Morocco also has them, as do several other countries.
