Spain Braces for Potential Conflict: Diplomat Urges Bolstering Defenses Against Moroccan Threat

A political leader believes that Spain must strengthen its defense against threats such as Morocco, which claims the enclaves of Ceuta and Melilla, as well as Spanish islands and rocks.

"We must be able to face a possible conflict with Morocco ourselves," explains Carlos Miranda in an analysis relayed by La Razon. According to him, in the event of a conflict with Morocco, "it would be necessary to extend the perimeter of Ceuta and Melilla to defend them, but for that, it would be necessary to pre-deploy the necessary equipment and ensure the passage of the Strait of Gibraltar."

The Spanish ambassador explains that "a war between Spain and Morocco, which our diplomacy and military deterrence can, we hope, prevent, would rather be a "clean missile." Rabat would fire shells at us across the Strait of Gibraltar, missiles at cities like Cadiz, Malaga, Seville and Madrid, and would also use thousands of drones and try to gain air superiority with its planes."

For his part, Spain would not let itself be done, assures Carlos Miranda. "We have naval superiority and we must maintain it with better armed frigates and submarines. Our air and space forces are able to ensure our air superiority, even if we may lack spy satellites and drones."

For the Spanish ambassador, a possible conflict between Morocco and Spain would not last "if the United States and European countries put an end to hostilities through mediation." Carlos Miranda did not fail to stress the need for Spain "to have a clearer idea of its deterrence capacity to reassure us and know where the money is spent to defend against a Moroccan or Russian threat."
