Spain Bolsters Naval Presence in Melilla Amid Territorial Tensions with Morocco

The Spanish Navy has deployed a patrol boat (the Vigía) and a contingent of the Legion in Melilla to carry out surveillance and deterrence missions there.
Spain continues to secure its territories claimed by Morocco. It is undoubtedly in this dynamic that the high-altitude patrol boat "Vigía" of the Spanish Navy docked at the Noray sports port of Melilla on July 2 and will remain there until Friday, July 5, where it will organize an open house day.
This stopover of the patrol boat in the waters of Melilla aims to "carry out a naval presence in the city of Melilla as part of maritime surveillance and security activities," informs Lieutenant-Commander Cristian Delgado Ramos, commander of this ship. During its stay in the port of Melilla, the patrol boat will benefit from the support of the Naval Command of the autonomous city, a member of the Maritime Action Force (FAM).
The Vigia patrol boat has been carrying out maritime surveillance and security operations (MSO) in the Gulf of Cadiz, the Strait and the Alboran Sea since June 20. Its crew includes 42 men and women from the marine infantry, responsible for ensuring the security and protection of the ship.
