Spain and Morocco Strengthen Economic Ties Ahead of 2030 World Cup Bid

In the perspective of hosting the 2030 World Cup, Spanish and French investors are engaged in fierce competition. But Moroccan giants are not left out.
As part of the co-organization of the 2030 World Cup, Spain and Morocco "are consulting on several projects, particularly in the infrastructure, urban planning and transport, renewable energy, and maritime sectors," explains economist Abdeslam Touhami, quoted by the weekly Challenge.
Even if relations between France and Morocco seem to be normalizing, after a long period of diplomatic tensions, Spanish investors have a definite advantage over their French competitors in concluding economic partnerships in Morocco, the magazine details, however noting that France remains Morocco’s leading economic partner in terms of foreign direct investment (FDI), with nearly 31% of total FDI.
"For now, each of the two parties is trying to make the most of the situation. It is not uncommon to see some companies from the two countries form a consortium to win a public contract. Often also, their companies are strongly competed, not only by other foreign companies, but especially by ’Moroccan champions’," develops the weekly.
In the field of highway construction, previously entrusted to foreign companies, a revolution has taken place in Morocco, which is increasingly trusting national companies. This is the case of the National Motorway Company of Morocco (ADM) which will carry out the highway connecting Tit Mellil to Berrechid. "A first in the history of the national motorway network," notes Challenge, which also cites the project of a "water highway" that will be entirely carried out by a Moroccan company.
