Ex-Soldier Arrested for Racist Murder in Spain Cites 'Moorish Mafia' Fears

The former Spanish soldier, suspected of being the author of the racist murder of Younes Bilal, the Moroccan killed on June 13 in Mazarron, reportedly declared after his arrest that "there is a mafia of Moors and they are not going to make fun of me."

One of the local police officers recalled on Tuesday to the investigating judge of the Totana court that the former soldier, Carlos Patricio B., the alleged perpetrator of the racist crime against the Moroccan in Mazarron, had declared after his arrest that "there is a mafia of Moors and they are not going to make fun of me." He is one of the four local police officers in Mazarron who located and arrested the alleged murderer after a chase, reports La Verdad. The officers state that after the suspect’s arrest, they did not check whether he was intoxicated, but they did not note any signs of anxiety in him. "I was more nervous than him," recalls one officer.

Two other Civil Guard agents present in the cafe at the time of the events were also heard by the court. According to sources close to the investigation, they were the first to come to the victim’s aid and secure the area, but they did not follow the scene before hearing the gunshots. In addition to these two agents, the investigating judge also received the testimony of a waitress from the bar where the crime took place. She confirms having heard the former soldier make derogatory remarks towards the victim and his friends.

The three friends and the parents of Younes Bilal, accompanied by their lawyer, Melecio Castaño, were also before the judge of the Totana court. They demanded civil damages and criminal sanctions for Younes’ death.
