Soaring Poultry Prices Spark Outrage in Morocco Amid Economic Pressure

Poultry prices in Morocco have been rising significantly for several months, causing discontent among Moroccans, especially the most vulnerable.
This increase is part of a difficult economic context where several basic necessities are seeing their prices soar. According to a survey conducted by Aljarida24 in various markets in Casablanca, the cost of poultry now oscillates between 21 and 23 dirhams per kilogram.
Professionals in the poultry sector have reported that the production of one kilogram of poultry costs between 15.50 and 16 dirhams, pointing to the high costs of raw materials, particularly corn and soy, which significantly reduce their profit margins.
Furthermore, professionals criticize the lack of appropriate government support measures. This lack of support, coupled with a drop in consumption due to inflation, could have serious consequences for the poultry herd.
They also denounce a precarious financial situation, marked by significant debts, particularly towards animal feed suppliers and chick distributors.
