Seun Kuti Cancels Morocco Jazz Performance Following Melilla Tragedy

Touched by the Melilla tragedy, Seun Kuti, son of Afrobeat king Fela Kuti, has canceled his concert scheduled for this Saturday, July 2nd in Morocco.
The saxophonist and singer Seun Kuti will be absent from the Jazzablanca festival taking place in Casablanca this Saturday. In an Instagram video, he announced "with great sadness" that he and his group would not be present. The Melilla tragedy is the reason behind this decision.

"It pains me to say that my spirit has been completely broken" by the events of last Friday, he said. "I cannot, in good faith and good conscience, take the stage and party and have a good time while so many Africans have lost their lives. Someone must mourn them," added the Nigerian artist.
On June 24, as nearly 2,000 undocumented African migrants attempted to enter the Spanish enclave of Melilla, 37 of them died in clashes with Moroccan security forces.
