Serbia Denies Visas to Moroccan Handball Team, Citing Immigration Concerns

The members of the Aïn Sebaa sports high school club who were to travel to Belgrade to participate in an international handball championship were unable to obtain their visas. The Serbian embassy in Morocco, fearing attempts at illegal immigration, simply refused to issue the visas.
Moroccan athletes have a reputation for taking off when they find themselves outside the territory for competitions. This is why the Serbian embassy refused to issue visas to the Aïn Sebaa high school delegation, even though the handball competition started last Saturday and will end on December 5, reports the daily Assabah.
Despite the intervention of the Secretary General of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Serbian embassy in Morocco remained firm in its decision. Even the International School Sports Federation could not help the athletes obtain the visas. The many escapes of athletes who take advantage of these competitions to illegally immigrate to Europe have ultimately tarnished Morocco’s reputation.
