Senegal’s Sall Eyes Moroccan Retirement Amid Election Uncertainty

Senegalese President Macky Sall has declared his intention to settle in Morocco after the end of his term, scheduled for April 2 next. In an interview, he expressed his affection for Morocco and mentioned the possibility of settling in Marrakech.
The date of the next presidential elections remains uncertain. The country is currently going through a major political and social crisis following Sall’s decision to postpone the elections originally scheduled for February 2024.
Faced with the tensions, the president has decided to postpone the setting of a new date for the elections. A national political dialogue will begin next Monday to find a way out of the crisis.
The initial postponement from February to December 2024 had been validated by parliament, despite strong opposition. However, the Constitutional Court has canceled this decision, leaving the country uncertain about the date of the next election.
