« See you on 15 August » : a new call to head to Ceuta worries Spain

Groups dedicated to immigration to Ceuta and Melilla are relaying the slogan “See you on 15 August”. Some participants say they want to travel to northern Morocco from several cities across the kingdom.

One of the main Facebook groups concerned has nearly 23,000 members, 6,000 more than a week ago. The administrator of another space created after the previous wave confirmed that its objective was to prepare a new attempt on that date.

El País says it consulted five Facebook groups bringing together nearly 400,000 members, as well as nine WhatsApp groups. This audience does not, however, mean that all their users plan to participate.

Calls not to try again

Many messages, on the contrary, attempt to dissuade potential participants. Their authors recall the deaths, disappearances and distress of families after the previous crossing. Some also fear manipulation intended to lure young people north.

The rumor could benefit clandestine networks that would then offer paid crossings. Despite the heavy human toll and the absence of any guarantee that the border will open, the call for 15 August continues to circulate.
