Sabotage Derails Marrakech-Tanger Train: Panic Erupts as Royal Gendarmerie Investigates

A train connecting Marrakech to Tanger was temporarily immobilized on Tuesday, August 5th in the evening after hitting intentionally placed obstacles on the railway track. The incident occurred at the level of the Sidi Bou Othmane area, in the province of Rhamna.
Unidentified individuals had deliberately placed plastic water bottles filled with stones on the tracks. The collision with these objects caused a state of panic among the passengers, exacerbated by a power outage that increased their tension and concern.
The National Railway Office proceeded to a prolonged stop of the train to inspect the track and ensure its integrity. This technical verification was necessary before the resumption of traffic.
A unit of the Royal Gendarmerie was dispatched to the scene as soon as the incident was reported. The gendarmes secured the surroundings of the railway track and checked the condition of the passengers. An investigation has been opened to identify the perpetrators of this act.
