At 41 years old, the singer, very famous in Morocco and the Arab world, appears as a free man. He arrived at the courthouse accompanied by his wife. Although he speaks French fluently, the defendant was assisted by an interpreter throughout the hearings to express himself more precisely.

The complainant accuses the artist of raping her in August 2018 in his hotel room in Saint-Tropez, after meeting in a nightclub. The young woman claims she simply agreed to have a drink. For his part, Saad Lamjarred repeatedly told investigators that the sexual intercourse was consensual.

The prosecution was initially not opposed to dismissing the case. However, the investigating chamber of the Aix-en-Provence court of appeal validated the referral to the assizes in 2021. Justice notably recalled on this occasion that entering a man’s room did not constitute consent.
