Moroccan Star Saad Lamjarred Sparks Outrage Over Modern Djellaba at Dubai Concert

The reason for this controversy? His clothing, a "revisited" Moroccan djellaba, was strongly criticized by part of the public.

Some Internet users described the djellaba as a "maternity dress", openly mocking the singer. Others expressed their disapproval, believing that such clothing choices did not correspond to the status of an internationally renowned artist like Saad Lamjarred.

Faced with these criticisms, the artist took care to specify that the djellaba in question was a creation of one of his stylist friends, an attempt, according to him, to modernize the traditional Moroccan garment.

The Moroccan singer is still facing French justice. The facts date back to October 2016. While he was in Paris to give a concert, Saad Lamjarred had been arrested and imprisoned following a complaint for sexual assault filed by a 20-year-old woman, Laura Prioul. The alleged victim had consistently and precisely described the events that took place in the singer’s hotel room.

The Paris Assize Court had sentenced the Moroccan singer Saad Lamjarred to six years in prison for rape and aggravated violence on February 24.
