Moroccan Pop Star Saad Lamjarred Appeals 6-Year Rape Sentence in French Court

The Moroccan singer Saad Lamjarred had appealed his conviction in Paris to six years in prison for aggravated rape.
Saad Lamjarred will appear before the Créteil Court of Appeal from Monday, June 2 to Friday, June 6, 2025. In February 2023, the Paris Court of Assizes had sentenced him to six years in prison for aggravated rape in this case dating back to 2016. The court said it was "convinced" of the rape "described consistently and precisely" by the civil party since her complaint. Laura Prioul had recounted at the stand how Saad, whom she met in a Parisian nightclub in October 2016, had raped and beaten her in his hotel room. The Moroccan singer had claimed his innocence throughout the trial, and appealed his conviction a few days after the verdict.
On April 20, 2023, the Moroccan singer was released from prison after being granted provisional release. He will therefore appear free before the Créteil Court of Appeal. His plaintiff, Laura Prioul, is expected to be present. Each of them should bring new elements to this case.
