Ruined Vacations: When a Prestigious Circuit in Morocco Turns into a Nightmare in Tunisia

The events date back to November 25, 2023, when clients booked a 4-star circuit in Morocco. Due to the unexpected cancellation of their Paris-Marrakech flight, the organizer did not offer an equivalent solution, forcing the travelers to an alternative of lower standing.

For lack of a better option, the clients accepted a substitute stay in Tunisia in a 3-star establishment. This experience proved to be deficient, marked by poor sanitary conditions and services largely inferior to the Moroccan standard initially promised, triggering a legitimate request for financial compensation.

According to the recommendations of the Tourism and Travel Mediation (MTV), reported by Tourmag, the organizer is fully responsible for the execution of the package. The replacement of a prestigious circuit in Morocco by a lower-category hotel does not constitute an equivalent alternative according to the Tourism Code.

In addition to the 1,600 euros in flat-rate compensation owed by the airline for the flight cancellation, the agency is invited to pay additional compensation. The overall recommended amount to cover the damage related to the degradation of the stay is 1,435.31 euros.

The MTV recalls that 97% of its opinions are accepted by the parties. In 2024, air transport represented two-thirds of the 16,000 cases handled, highlighting the increased vigilance of the authorities in the face of shortcomings of operators on flagship destinations like Morocco.
