Royal Sports Field Project in Tangier Replaced by Private Real Estate Development

The residents of Bir al-Ghazi in Beni Makada in Tangier and the surrounding neighborhoods were surprised to see the transformation, into a private real estate project, of a royal project that planned the construction of a neighborhood sports field.
The neighborhood sports stadium project was allocated a sum of 2 million dirhams, with a completion deadline of three months. But to the great surprise of the residents, the project was buried and a real estate project was launched in its place.
A petition addressed by the residents to the Ministry of Habous and Islamic Affairs, to which the land belongs, now demands explanations on the terms of the transfer of ownership of the said land.
The signatories write: "At a time when the population received with great joy the news of this Royal project which could have given a new impetus to the sporting activity of the young people, these neighborhoods which have been plunged into oblivion and neglect for years where phenomena such as drugs and violence are widespread, have seen this glimmer of hope turn into a mirage." The petition also condemns what the residents consider to be a flagrant violation of the Law.
It should be noted that this type of project is part of the National Initiative for Human Development (INDH) whose ambition is to eradicate precariousness in the kingdom.
