Morocco Launches Direct Casablanca-Toronto Flight, Boosting Africa-Canada Ties

Following the directive issued by Bank Al-Maghrib (BAM) on September 25, 2024, which now caps the domestic interchange rate at 0.65%, the Interbank Monetary Center (CMI) has been forced to align itself.

The launch of the direct Casablanca-Toronto air route is a testament to Morocco’s determination to establish a lasting connection between Africa and Canada, and North America in general, said participants in the ceremony organized on Wednesday by Royal Air Maroc in Toronto. This direct link is a boon for businessmen, academics, artists and nationals of African and North American countries, who will develop new partnerships, said Souriya Otmani, Morocco’s ambassador to Canada.

This air route, whose inaugural flight is scheduled for December 8, marks an important step in strengthening the relationship between Morocco and Canada, and by extension, between several Arab, African and European countries, added the diplomat, assuring that this link offers new prospects for regional and international cooperation. "The choice of Casablanca as Royal Air Maroc’s strategic hub underlines Morocco’s central position, not only in Africa, but also as a bridge between continents," she stressed.

Nour-Eddine Ezzairi, RAM’s regional representative in Canada, for his part specified that the direct Casablanca-Toronto route will be served at a rate of three weekly rotations: Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, indicating that this connection will also impact social and cultural exchanges between the two countries. To recall, the direct link with Toronto is the company’s second in Canada, after the one with Montreal. In North America, RAM also connects New York, Washington and Miami from Casablanca. It will resume its line with São Paulo on December 7.
